2026 Crash Data So Far | Malden Safe Streets

Data from the MassDOT Crash Portal

There have been 417 crash reports in 2026 so far, specifically up to June 30th. Considering all of 2025 had 827, it seems to be up to par.

🤕INJURIES - No cases of fatalities, so that’s good to see! 6 cases involved a serious injury, 1 which involved a pedestrian. 61 cases suspected to involved a minor injury, 9 involving a pedestrian, 5 a cyclist, 3 an e-scooter rider.

These are all pretty busy streets, so it’s unsurprising to me. Broadway again is the street with the most crash reports. Fortunately, the city just won a $2M grant to improve this area, so hopefully that means it won’t be as dangerous in the near future.

Last year Centre St @ Main was #1 with 8 reports. So Route 1 / Salem St Ramp being at 6 is concerning for only being halfway through the year.

🐪Bainbridge Street

Speedhumps were installed on Bainbridge Street in August 2025, so I wanted to look at how crash reports compared before and after its installation. In the first half of 2025, there were 11 crash reports on Bainbridge St. In the first half of 2026? Just 3. That’s a 73% decrease.

Malden’s Crash Report Narratives on Vulnerable Users

This is looking at the crash reports from the City of Malden’s website, which I do enter under Malden Safe Streets’s crash report page.

From January 1 to June 30, there have been 40 crash reports that involved vulnerable users. Vulnerable users include pedestrians, bicyclists, scooter riders, moped drivers, motorcyclists, and one dog. Why are 13 of these reports missing from the state side? I don’t know.

❄From January to end of March, there were 8 incidences (7 pedestrians, 1 bicyclist). As the weather got warmer, rates jumped. 🌷From April to end of June, there were 32. Who were involved also varied much more. See the chart below:

🛴🚶It looks like scooter riders get hit just as much as pedestrians, which personally to me is concerning because I suspect there’s way more pedestrians in Malden than there are scooter riders.

Of the five reports where I can verify their age three are teens and two are 35-44. The adults got hit on the street, one at a residential intersection and the other by a car reversing near YMCA. Of the teens, one was crossing Northern Strand; another was scooting too close to a car that took a turn, and another popping a wheelie in the Broadway Plaza parking lot. The others whose age I couldn’t ID, one was going down a hilly street and another hit by a car leaving their side street parking spot.

Keep in mind I’ll be using these Maps for all of 2026, so it’ll include those after June.

What I noticed is that bicyclist incidences seem to be happen more in West Malden, but pedestrian and e-scooter incidences look more all over the place.
